PWD Minister and local MLA Sudin Dhavalikar will lay the foundation stone for the proposed sports complex at the Marcaim panchayat ground on Friday at 10 am, in the presence of Sports Minister Babu Azgaonkar and other government officials.

The proposed sports complex, which will have a provision for a resthouse, badminton court and a gym, will be utilised by youth from Kavalem, Bandora and Marcaim panchayats. Dhavalikar had taken efforts to develop the Marcaim panchayat ground to provide sports facilities for the youth of Marcaim constituency, especially since Dhavalikar was himself a sportsman who had played cricket, badminton and table tennis.

After getting elected as MLA for the first time in 1999, Dhavalikar had taken the decision to convert the rocky terrain into a ground. He began developing the ground through the Madhavrao Dhavalikar Trust and had utilised loads of trucks to level the ground, while also employing workers to look after the ground.

However, the project could not be completed and since then, the youth of Marcaim panchayat had been requesting him to complete the work.

Meanwhile, Dhavalikar has also expressed his desire to develop grounds in Kundaim and Adpai, while also indicating plans to upgrade the ground at the Famagudi. “I have a dream to provide comprehensive development in Marcaim constieuincy and some dreams have been fulfilled. There are still other projects to be set up and efforts are underway to construct a stadium of national standards at Farmagudi,” said Dhavalikar.

He also stated that the beautification of the Chatrapathi Shivaji fort would be undertaken at Farmagudi.

“Farmagudi has a close relationship with Chatrapathi Shivaji and his son, Shambhaji. The new generation should be aware of this relationship,” the minister added.
