Supporters of Deputy Chief Minister and Pernem MLA Manohar (Babu) Ajgaonkar welcomed him in Pernem on Thursday. Ajgaonkar had split from the MGP and joined BJP in the wee hours of Wednesday and he made his first visit to Pernem as BJP MLA and deputy chief minister.
Despite the mixed reactions to his defection, sarpanchas and panchas of panchayat bodies in Pernem were present to welcome him. They included Vazarim Sarpanch Sangeta Gaokar, Korgao Sarpanch Pramila Dessai, Deputy Sarpanch Rangnath Kashalkar, former chairperson of Pernem Municipal Council Usha Nagvekar and former sarpanch of Mopa Pallavi Rawol.
