OLD GOA
The family members of the 6-year old girl Vani Khanapur from New Vaddem-Vasco, who died last month on account of suspected dengue, demanded that there should be thorough probe into the matter and punishment of the guilty.
The demand was made after the family of the girl, including the father and the mother, met GMC Dean Shivanand Bandekar on Thursday.
Later, speaking to reporters, Gauri Khanpur, the mother of the child, informed that they came to meet Dr Bandekar as they wanted probe into the medical negligence of the doctor and the nurse of Chicalim sub district hospital.
“He has assured that they are probing the matter and it will take another six months time to complete the same,” Khanapur stated, while alleging that it was due to the negligence of the Chicalim health authorities that she lost her only child.
“My girl was admitted on November 13 in the hospital and after her condition worsened the next day she was shifted to GMC where she died within half an hour after being admitted. The GMC doctors told us that if she was brought a little earlier she could have been saved,” Khanapur informed.
“We were demanding with the Chicalim doctor to shift my child to GMC but nobody listened,” Khanapur claimed while laying the blame on her death on the Chicalim health authorities.
“Therefore, we are demanding that there should be thorough probe into the matter and the punishment of the guilty, which includes dismissal from service,” another relative demanded.
The family members also informed that they have already lodged a complaint with the Vasco police station and have also met local MLA Mauvin Godinho seeking justice.
“However, since nothing was happening we have now approached the GMC Dean and we are hopeful that justice will be served,” a relative said.
