Suspense continued in the Congress camp over the party candidate for the South Goa Lok Sabha seat, even as GPCC Chief Girish Chodankar, who is likely to be the party candidate for the North

Goa seat will launch his campaign with a cycle rally in Mapusa on Sunday.

The GPCC Chief said the Party’s Central Election Committee is expected to announce candidates for the two Lok Sabha seats on Sunday, while declining to cite the reasons behind the delay. Sources said the party leadership may be on the job to assess the pros and cons in the event the ticket for the South Goa seat is given to either Francisco Sardinha or Pratima Coutinho.

Given the situation, both the strong contenders for the South Goa Lok Sabha seat, three-time former MP 

Francisco Sardinha and Mahila Congress chief Pratima Coutinho are keeping their fingers  crossed over the candidate. When contacted, Sardinha said he would not like to comment anything till the High Command makes the official announcement on the names of candidates. “I have  nothing to comment.

Let the Party leadership announce the list of candidates”, he said. Mahila Congress Chief Pratima Coutinho also echoed similar sentiments, saying that she has nothing to comment as the party top brass is seized with the situation. “Let us wait for the party leadership to announce the candidate”, Pratima said.

Meanwhile, GPCC Chief Girish told The Goan that he will launch the Congress camp for the North Goa Lok Sabha seat with a cycle rally in Mapusa on Sunday. “The cycle rally is part of the party’s campaign in North Goa, irrespective of the candidate for the seat”, he said.

To a question, Girish said the Congress top brass is expected to unveil the names of the candidates for the two Lok Sabha seats on Sunday.

Both the GPCC Chief and CLP leader Babu Kavlekar, who attended the Congress Central Election Committee meeting in Delhi on Friday returned home in Saturday morning.
