Suspense ends, Lobo elected deputy speaker

BJP’s Calangute MLA, Michael Lobo was elected the Deputy Speaker of the State Legislative Assembly, defeating Congress nominee Isidore Fernandes.

While Lobo managed to secure 21 votes, Fernandes secured 15 votes. After he was announced to have won the election, Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar and Leader of Opposition Chandrakant ‘Babu’ Kavlekar escorted Lobo to his chair.  
Speaking after being elected as the Deputy Speaker, Lobo termed Parrikar a ‘visionary leader’.  
“I have watched Parrikar very closely from 2002, and I used to always say that if one man who can give justice to Goa and Goans, it is Parrikar. He gave me an opportunity to become an MLA. He left his Defence Ministry and came to Goa as a chief minister. There were unfinished issues and I look forward at this government. There are people like Vijai Sardesai and Rohan Khaunte who had taken up issues while in the Opposition and now they are in the ruling. This government has been formed for the people of Goa,” he said.  
Earlier, Parrikar, Kavlekar and Sudin Dhavalikar congratulated Lobo for being elected as the 
Deputy Speaker.

Auto dealers in top gear as govt reduces road tax

Automobile dealers couldn’t have asked for more, as Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar reduced the road tax by a great deal, while presenting the Budget for 2017-18. For certain categories of automobiles, the road tax has been brought down by as much as 5%, which will bring down the on-road price and will help in giving a boost to sales of dealers.
