SWR begins first leased parcel Vasco-Assam cargo express

The South Western Railway (SWR) operated first leased parcel cargo express train service from Vasco to Azara in Guwahati-Assam.

The leased parcel cargo express train from Vasco to Azara and back operated by M/s AVG Logistics, covering a distance of 3,358 kms, commenced its maiden journey on Saturday, carrying food products, tyres, etc.

The operator can load and unload cargo at Hubballi, Charlapalli (Telangana), Sankrail and New Jalpaiguri (West Bengal).

With a revenue of Rs 25.45 lakh per trip, SWR is expected to generate sizeable profits, sources said.

The train consists of 15 parcel vans of 24 tonnes capacity and a brake van. The train will benefit the industry and agricultural sector in Goa and North Karnataka region.

“In the return direction, tea, readymade garments, etc. are being transported from Assam, West Bengal to Telangana, Karnataka and Goa,” SWR officials said.

The train departs Vasco every Friday at 7 pm and reaches Azara every Tuesday at 5 pm. In the return direction, the train leaves Azara every Wednesday at 6 pm and arrives Vasco at 8.30 am on Sunday. “The service will be operating for the next six years,” said Sr Divisional Commercial Manager Harietha.
