A day after their election to the hot seats, some of the sarpanchas spoke to The Goan on their immediate priorities, while others said that they would unveil their road map after the meeting of the panchayat members. Comments of the sarpanchas
Diela Pereira, Benaulim: Our members are yet to meet, but I have decided to take on the waste problem staring at the coastal tourist village head on. Tackling waste problem would be the top-most priority of the panchayat area. Another area, which will receive our attention, would be the upgradation of the sub-health centre at Benaulim as early as possible given the hardships faced by the villagers.
Anthony (Mam) Fernandes, Colva: Garbage collection and disposal has been the main issue facing the tourist village. The panchayat would not leave any stone unturned to tackle the burning issue. Colva is a world famous tourist destination and the panchayat would also take up on priority a solution for the contaminated Colva creek.
Savio D’Silva, Velim: Villagers have over the years expressed concern over the sanitation and other aspects at the Cutbona fishing jetty. The new panchayat would try and address the concerns of the villagers. The panchayat would also take up initiates to put the village infrastructure in place.
Wilma D’Silva, Navelim: Navelim village on the outskirts of Margao town is indeed facing the burning issue of garbage. The new panchayat body is aware of the burning issue and we will try to find out a solution. The panchayat body will also take up the cleaning and desilting of drains on top-most priority.
Agnelo D’Costa, Macazana: I will accord top priority for the completion of the village football ground. Macazana villagers have been facing problems due to erratic power supply. The panchayat will also take up upgradation of the health centre with the local MLA Clafacio Dias.
Xavier Almeida, Assolna: The panchayat would give utmost priority for the construction of a new panchayat ghar near the police outpost. Besides, efforts will be made to tackle the waste problem facing the village, besides the stray cattle menace.
Sanjana Chari, Dramapur-Sirlim: Dramapur-Sirlim is one village which has no major sources of revenue. The panchayat body will meet to discuss how to generate revenue which can be used for the development of the village.
Rupesh Naik, Curtorim: Given that the monsoon has set in, the new body will accord priority to complete the pre-monsoon works. Besides, the panchayat will take up the drainage system in the village.
Safiya Bi, Rumdamol: Garbage has been the major issue plaguing the Rumdamol Housing Board and the new panchayat will try and solve the issue with the help of the authorities. There are many issues facing housing board area and the new body will try to take it up one by one.
Winston Dias, Carmona: The panchayat body will soon meet and decide on the priorities. We are a new body and the road map will be chalked out at the coming meeting of the panchayat. The new panchayat body has no political affiliations and has been elected by the people.
