In first signs that the May 31 deadline mandated by the Bombay High Court at Goa for all ‘Smart City’ work to be wound up will be overun, the Imagine Panaji Smart City Development Limited (IPSCDL) on Tuesday announced that it will begin work on the final leg of the new sewerage system and shut the road between the Caculo mall and PWD’s sewage plant at Tonca.

The road from Caculo Mall to the bridge near the Sewerage Treatment Plant (STP), Tonca, shall remain closed from May 14 till June 10,” a press release issued by IPSCDL said.

It said, sewerage works of laying the main trunk line and manholes from the Fire Services headquarters to the Tonca STP will be taken up

This line will pass along the road and also across the creek and connect to the Tonca STP, the press release said.

The IPSCDL also warned that along this stretch of road between Caculo Mall and the STP plant, “settlement of road” is anticipated as the pipe being laid is large and of one-meter diameter.

“The gaps/voids between the drilled hole for the pipe and the pipe laid will get naturally filled with the surrounding soil which may lead to settlement of road,” it said.

The IPSCDL has therefore said that the road is being entirely shut down to ensure the safety of commuters and citizens and has urged all to avoid using this stretch for the closure period of little over three weeks.

General public has also been advised to seek any clarification either by email at office@imaginepanaji.com or by directly contacting nodal officers: Mukund Malik (8806814440) and Sameeuddin Sheikh (8956225888)..
