Repair work on the water pipeline near the Swayambhu Math in Colvale had led to water shortage in Chikhali-Colvale.

Amid Ganesh Chaturthi festivities, about 200 houses have been struggling for water supply in Chikhali-Colvale since the last five days.

Affected residents have expressed anger and have accused authorities of failing to resolve the issue.

According to sources, the water pipe near the Swayambhu Math in Colvale had started leaking about six months ago. The PWD took up repair work of the pipeline on August 22 and completed the work in two days.

However, since then, water has stopped flowing into the pipeline supplying water to Chikhali village. Left with no option, people have been forced to rely on private tankers since the last five days.

On Monday, PWD officials tried to locate a leak in the water pipe, and water started flowing into the Chikhali water tank at a much lower pressure. The water tank, which used to fill in three hours, now takes about eight hours.

When contacted, Colvale Sarpanch Dashrath Bicholkar said they have contacted the PWD officials to resolve the problem after water supply was disrupted in Chikhali area.

PWD officials said efforts are underway to locate the issue in the water pipeline and restore water supply in the area,

Having repaired the pipeline, PWD officials have been left wondering as to what exactly caused the issue in the pipeline leading to disruption in the water supply, and have started investigating the problem.
