Principals of under-graduate colleges skipping their 'teaching duties' has come to be flagged by the association of college teachers in Goa.
In a letter-petition to the Governor P S Sreedharan Pillai, who is also the Chancellor of Goa University, the College teachers association has alleged that College Principals are avoiding taking lectures which is mandated by University Grants Commission (UGC) guidelines.
The principals cite 'administrative work' to avoid taking lectures, although they are paid additional emoluments for the work, the University College Teacher’s Association (UCTAG), Goa has said.
According to UCTAG, the Principals are mandated to teach at least two subjects and take eight lectures a week.
UCTAG has also alleged that some principals, while not taking lectures in their own colleges, go to teach self-financed courses in other institutions for monetary gains.
“Some Principals are busy doing business, involved in politics and other non-academic activities," UCTAG said, adding that principals be assessed on the basis of their performance.
Raj Bhavan sources said, the Governor has marked the letter for comments from the Principals' forum.
