Teachers must adopt new techniques to bring about change: Javadekar

MAPUSA: Asserting that teachers can bring about change in the education scenario, Union Minister for Human Resources Development Prakash Javadekar on Saturday said the government has introduced learning outcome based teaching to revamp the learning process in the country and sought cooperation from teachers to achieve the goal.
“We have already started learning outcome based teaching in schools across the country. It will be your responsibility and accountability to use the new techniques to teach students,” Javadekar said.
“This will ensure that an Std 8 student will understand a subject of Std 9 and a Std 7 student will be able to work a mathematics problem of Std 8. This will be the new teaching trend and what has been taught till today will change for good,” he added.
The union HRD minister in a recorded video was addressing primary teachers at the All India Primary Teachers Mahasangh’s national convention in Mapusa.
Revenue Minister of Maharashtra Chandrakant Patil, Maharashtra MP Dhananjay Mahadik and eminent scientist Dr Raghunath Mashelkar addressed the convention.
In his opening remark, Javadekar described Goa as beautiful place and exhorted the teachers that education should also be given a special place.
He said teachers had placed 10 demands before the government but they have not mentioned what was required to improve the standard of education in the country.
He disclosed that several surveys revealed that a Std 8 student could not solve a mathematics problem of Std 5.
“It’s important for a teacher to think what has to be done to bring this change. Don’t you think it’s everyone’s responsibility? There has to be commitment from everyone and some teachers have shown that commitment,” he said.
The union HRD minister further said that just like Prime Minister Narendra Modi gave a clarion call, “Sabke Satth, Sabka Vikas” the human resources ministry has also given a slogan, “Sabko Shiksa, Aachi Shiksa”.
“Aachi shiksa is very important and it should be everyone’s slogan,” he said.
Exhorting the teachers to remain focused on their job, eminent scientist Dr Raghunath Mashelkar stressed that along with knowledge-based education it was important to impart value-based education to children.
“Teachers are building the future team of India and therefore you need to remain focused on the job so that the country can produce good leaders,” Mashelkar said.
Maharashtra Revenue Minister Chandrakant Patil promised the teachers to place their demands before the chief minister of Maharashtra for a favourable decision.
MP Dhananjay Mahadik also assured to raise the demands of the teachers in the ongoing Parliament session.
