Technical snag brings online ops to grinding halt at MMC

MARGAO: Payment of taxes and other online operations in the Margao Municipal Council came to a virtual halt on Monday morning following a technical snag in the server.

Citizens, who came to the municipal building to pay their taxes, had to return home disappointed on Monday morning after they were told that the online services were all down.

Some citizens, who had made it to the civic body with the sole purpose of clearing their dues and taxes, were seen waiting for operations to resume till 1 pm, but in vain.

It was only at around 2 pm that the internet services were restored, but most citizens had already returned home by that time.

What’s significant is that there was no official around to explain what had gone wrong with the internet network, whether the server was down or whether there was a network problem.

Sources in the know pointed out that MMC has no dedicated staff to look after IT, after the civic body discontinued the services of a staff a couple of months ago. With citizens waiting in a queue to make the tax payments, MMC officials were frantically trying to establish contact with NIC officials to find out the status of the problem.
