Vasco Police have cracked a house burglary case with the arrest of a 19-year-old youth and recovered stolen gold and silver ornaments and two mobile phones worth over Rs 10 lakh.
The burglary took place at the residence of Vasco businessman Devanna Melakar (38) at Varunapuri, Mangor Hill, on July 31. Police said the complainant was away from home when the accused allegedly entered the house using keys kept near a window.
Following the complaint, Vasco Police registered a case. During the course of the investigation, police arrested Laxman Jaiswal, aged 19, in connection with the theft. Police subsequently recovered the stolen items.
The accused was produced before the court and remanded to three days of police custody. Police are now carrying out further investigation to establish the complete circumstances surrounding the house break-in and to ascertain whether the accused was involved in any other similar offences.
Further investigation is being conducted by PSI Suresh B. Velip under the supervision of Vasco Police Inspector Vaibhav Naik and the guidance of Mormugao DySP Gurudas Kadam.
