MARGAO
Water Resource Development Minister Subhash Shirodkar, who represents Shiroda constituency, on Saturday said that the tender for the new High Level Borim Bridge will be floated in the next 4-5 months.
In fact, Shirodkar stated that first phase of the bridge construction costing around Rs 400 crore should begin in the first half of the New Year.
Asked to comment on the status of the new Borim Bridge, Shirodkar said the land acquisition for the bridge stands complete, adding that the consultant is busy finalising the drawings. “The work of completing the drawings should be finalised in the next 4-5 months and work should commence after the floating of tender,” he said.
Saying that Union Minister for Road Transport Nitin Gadkari has been liberal in sanctioning projects in Goa, Shirodkar said there are some people who are objecting to the Borim Bridge just to delay the project. “We should understand that what is planned across the River Zuari is a bridge. Hence, the bridge has to be built on land. Hence, there’s a need for land acquisition, but the government has acquired minimum land for the project,” he added.
