A total of 66,479 tenants and 33,123 servants/labourers have been verified across the North district this year so far, as the State police intensified preventive policing amid ongoing efforts to curb thefts, illegal activities and unverified movement of people.
The district police have also detained 13 persons from West Bengal on suspicion during a drive in Pilerne, and placed them under preventive arrest. Over 1,250 tenants have been verified through the Aadhaar-based system on the Goa Police app.
Superintendent of Police Rahul Gupta said that proceedings have also begun against a house owner who failed to complete mandatory tenant verification.
“Night vigilance has been stepped up with over 30 nakabandis operating daily between 6 pm and 6 am. Police said more than 90,000 vehicles and two lakh individuals have been checked this year. Mileage logs of night-patrolling vehicles are being reviewed to monitor coverage,” he said.
A targeted crackdown on scrapyards and kabadiwalas led to 105 scrapyards and 221 kabadiwalas being verified. One Uttar Pradesh native, who arrived in Goa recently and was working as a kabadiwala, was arrested in Valpoi for possessing a forged Aadhaar card.
Overall, 3,596 preventive arrests have been made this year across North Goa.
Police have urged residents to use the Goa Police app for tenant and labour verification and to report suspicious activity or emergencies via 112.
