Three anti-coal crusaders and an activist who had taken up many an CRZ violations in the High Court and the National Green Tribunal (NGT) have made it to the panchayat bodies of Majorda, Sao Jose de Areal and Cavelossim.
Convenor Creson Antao, who has been spearheading the anti-coal agitation and the agitation against the three-linear projects, has retained his place in the Majorda village panchayat.
On the other hand, another anti-coal activist from Sao Jose de Areal, Joycee, a familiar face in the anti-coal movement launched by Goyant Kollso Naka, has made it to the panchayat for the first time. With the election throwing up a host of new faces with the people rejecting the old faces, Joycee and other first time panchayat members are trying to forge a consensus in the interest of the village.
Anti-coal activist, former Sarzora Sarpanch Sabita Mascarenhas has retained her seat in the village panchayat of Sarzora. Another activist who has made it to the Cavelossim village panchayat is Cavelossim Villagers Forum, Adv Irish Passainha. Passainha has been in the forefront in taking up the issue of CRZ violations.
