CANACONA

Dugal Projects Development Company Private Limited (DPDCPL) is back to claim its vast land they purchased over three decades ago for a mega hotel project which was abandoned midway and presently under massive encroachments on Agonda coast.

Men accompanied by private security personnel were seen erecting boards and pasting notices all over the property, which is presently being occupied/encroached for massive tourism activities, warning trespassers of prosecution.

It may be known that in the early 80s DPDCPL had purchased vast tracts of land approximately 3.5 lakh square metres on the southern side of Agonda coast popularly known as Val.

The company purchased mostly uninhibited and agricultural land leaving some pockets (plots) in between, beginning from Tambdem area and extending towards south through coconut grooves, a rivulet, paddy fields and touching mountainous terrain of Val area.

The company had even constructed three buildings, including two private bungalows fully furnished, and had plans for a mini-dock and helipad, besides a sprawling golf course, before the project

was abandoned in the mid-80s (1984-85).

The sale deeds were executed for about Rs 3.5 lakh whereas only a few of the mutations were completed, leaving names of original landlords on the form I & XIV.

According to local sources, encroachments began a decade ago following tourism upheaval in the village. Most of the encroachments are believed to be done by the previous landlords using Form I & XIV.  The company has been objecting to the mass encroachments, but their complaints went unheard.

It approached the National Company of Law and Tribunal (NCLT), Mumbai and appointed Arunava Sikdar as interim resolution professional under the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code, 2016.

Insolvency Professional reportedly served notices to the Collector (South), Canacona Deputy Collector, Police, BDO and Agonda panchayat to remove the encroachments.

A team, along with private security personnel (around six to seven persons) physically visited, pasted notices and also erected boards where encroachments were prominently seen.
