There’s good news in store for tiatr lovers from Salcete as Ravindra Bhavan, Margao, has decided to reach out to tiatr directors and producers to ensure that the popular art returns to the cultural institution from April.
The General Council of the Ravindra Bhavan, Margao, headed by former MLA Damu Naik, which met on Friday, discussed the resumption of tiatr shows at the cultural institution. The council is also willing to take a big step forward by granting concessions to the producers for the use of the auditorium.
Briefing the media after the General Council meeting, Damu said it has been decided to gradually start staging of tiatrs and nataks at the cultural institution, beginning from April.
“We have discussed the issue. The prevailing SOP for auditoriums may not be economically viable for the tiatr directors, who have to take care of the cast, musicians etc. Hence, we felt that Ravindra Bhavan can reach out to the tiatr directors and producers with some sops in the form of concessions on the auditorium to lessen the financial burden on the directors,”
he said.
Damu said with the government coming out with new SOPs with the passage of time, he exuded confidence that a new SOP for auditoriums will be in place by April when the Covid situation is expected to improve and the government undertakes the vaccination exercise.
Saying that he had started consultations with his tiatrist friends on how to go about the matter at the Ravindra Bhavan, Damu said tiatr lovers can indeed look forward to tiatrs making a comeback at the cultural institution in April.
The Chairman further said the General Council has further decided ways and means of reviving the cultural activities and also strengthen revenue generation.
“We have already started workshops for small groups of people. We intend to take the exercise in the coming days step by step,” he said, while adding that the safety and health of people will be given paramount importance.
