For the third consecutive day, the Margao police detained Tibetan students from Bangalore, who arrived in the city to protest against the Chinese officials for what they called the occupation of Tibet by China. Around 21 Tibetan college students from Bangalore were taken into custody by the Margao police on Friday. As Tibetan flags were found in their possession, the Margao police have decided to move the Sub-divisional Magistrate, Margao, to remand them to judicial custody for the next two days as a precautionary measure. The Margao police are also working on leads suggesting that many small groups of students have arrived in the city on Friday to protest against the Chinese officials. "Our personnel are on the job, conducting search operations in some of the city hotels for Tibetans," remarked PI Patil. One of the detained Tibetan students told The Goan that they have come to protest against the visiting Chinese President and officials for what he termed as the illegal occupation of Tibet. "China has taken away all our rights. We have no freedom of speech and expression in our own country. Our people have self-immolated to protest against the Chinese occupation, but the Chinese are not willing to withdraw from Tibet," the student said, adding that their protests will never cease till China withdraws completely from Tibet. The detention of the 21 Tibetan students on Friday has so far taken the number of Tibetans detained so far to over 40. The police are now looking out for Tibetan groups alighting at the bus stand and the railway station.The 21 Tibetans were remanded to two days judicial çustody. CURCHOREM: The Selaulim Irrigation Project dam will remain closed for four days from October 15 to 18 for security reasons on account of the BRICS Summit. Speaking to the media, Assistant Engineer Water Resources Department Anand Panchwadkar informed that the Selaulim dam along with Selalulim Botanical Garden, which is usually open for tourists and general public, will remain closed from October 15 till 18 on account of the BRICS Summit. "This precaution has been taken as the dam is a sensitive zone. General public are requested to cooperate with the security guards and take note of the information," said Panchwadkar.
