Tiracol golf course gets environmental approval

PANAJI
Ministry of Environment and Forests has given its final approval for the Environmental Clearance to the 18-hole golf course being planned at Tiracol village in Pernem taluka.
The EC is based on a recommendation by the Expert Appraisal Committee of the Ministry of Environment and Forests which in July had recommended the 18-hole golf course project for a clearance while setting a set of 27 conditions to be followed during the construction phase and another five to be followed during the operational phase.
The proponents of the golf course earlier had an environmental clearance granted by the State Environment Impact Assessment Authority (SEIAA) which was kept in abeyance by the National Green Tribunal following which Leading Hotels approached the MoEF since the SEIAA's term had since expired.
Leading Hotels proposal is for the development of 18 hole golf course and an Eco Tourism Resort at village Tiracol with a total plot area of 9.90 lakh sqm. The proposed resort will be built on the non-agricultural land and consists of of 128 Standard Villas, 60 Premium Villas and an US PGA standard championship Golf Course spread over a built-up area of around 95,000 sqm.
