Days after the release of Manifesto 2022, the TMC on Thursday reiterated the party’s commitment towards improving Goa’s ‘Health and Education’ infrastructure.
In a press note, Goa TMC Vice-President Rajendra Kakodkar, Goa TMC Mahila Wing President Avita Bandodkar and Goa TMC Mormugao candidate Jayesh Shetgaonkar elaborated on how they plan to strategically invest in the crucial Health and Education sectors at a press conference held at the party office in Panaji on Thursday.
Highlighting the dire need to pump in money in the health sector to attain the highest level of well-being for the people of Goa, Avita Bandodkar said, “The Covid pandemic left Goa devastated. People lost their loved ones because of the failure of the BJP government. It’s a shame that Chief Minister Pramod Sawant failed to even provide oxygen cylinders in time. We believe that it is our duty to provide quality healthcare to our people and so TMC has decided double the State budget from 1.35% to 2.75% to improve overall health infrastructure in Goa.”
Adding to that, Rajendra Kadkodar said, “Our immediate focus is towards putting an end to BJP’s agenda of privatising healthcare services. We will establish two new medical colleges and hospitals with a 180-student intake and 1,000 beds respectively and we will provide Universal Health Card which provides accident cover of Rs 1 Lakh for the first 48 hours.”
Bringing to fore the exacerbating educational disparities in Goa, Jayesh Shetgaonkar lambasted the ruling government and said, “The BJP promised us 5G network but in reality we are slower than 2G. So many students lost out on crucial years, exams and opportunities due to the pathetic connectivity in Goa. We won’t let students suffer anymore. We won’t let the future of India down. That is why, the TMC has decided to increase the budget expenditure on education from 2.39 % to 6%.” “Furthermore, government schools will be upgraded with digital classrooms and all school and college going students will be allowed to travel for free in public buses,” he added.
