MAPUSA
Deputy Speaker and Calangute MLA Michael Lobo on Thursday said that schools housed in the heart of the city should be shifted at the outskirts of Mapusa to decongest the city.
“Four years ago, we had made plans to shift the schools near the Bodgehwar Temple, at the outskirts of the city. As the then NGPDA chairman, I had pushed the file to shift the schools out,” Lobo said.
The deputy speaker was speaking at a function to inaugurate a new computer lab and staff room at the Dnyanprasarak Vidalaya School in Mapusa.
Chairman of Dnyanprasarak Mandal, Srikrishna Pokle, the mandal’s secretary, Surendra Sirsat, headmaster, Gurudas Palkar and others were present for the function.
Speaking further, Lobo said that just when the proposal to shift the schools was being worked out, the Chief Minister was elevated as the Defence Minister of the country.
“To decongest Mapusa, we will have to take all schools to a better place… at the outskirts of the city. Give them proper infrastructure and have a common laboratory and playground,” he said.
Exhorting the students to make good use of technology, Lobo said every management works to provide good facility to its students.
“You have a good set of teachers here. But now, you also have a modern computer lab,” he said, referring to the inauguration of the new computer laboratory in the school.
He said Goa has a lot of problems like garbage and the students can help by creating an awareness to keep their surroundings clean at home and in school.
“You should convince your parents about proper methods of waste disposal avoid the use of plastics. It’s not just enough to speak about Swachh Bharat. We need to practice it,” he said.
He also told the students that they were the future leaders and since Goa was a tourism state, they could work in taking tourism to another level.
In his address, the Chairman of Dnyanprasarak Mandal, Srikrishna Pokle said that the Calangute MLA was known for the progress he has brought about in his constituency.
“Michael Lobo has converted small streets into broad roads with footpaths. To achieve this, he at times spent from his own pocket. He is the vikas purush of the whole of Goa,” Pokle said.
