In tragic incident, a toddler died of injuries after accidentally going under a bus at Hankhane to collect her toy late Tuesday evening.
According to reports, the incident took place at about 7.30 pm, when the KTC bus, which was proceeding from Valpoi to Ibrampur, was stranded on the main road at Hankhane as there was traffic jam.
At the same time, the parents of the one-and-a-half-year-old girl were removing some stuff from their car which was in front of the bus.
The girl suddenly got down from the car and a toy in her hand fell down and rolled below the stationary bus.
The toddler then went under the bus to collect her toy, but the bus driver had no idea of her presence under the bus.
Some onlookers noticed the toddler under the bus and pulled her out, before the bus could move ahead.
When they pulled her out, the girl was seen with an injury on her waist. She was taken immediately to a hospital at Dhargal and sent for further treatment, where she died of injuries while undergoing treatment.
Mopa police have taken statement of the father of the girl and the bus driver.
The father of the girl has given in writing that the KTC bus driver was not at fault, stated Mopa PI Narayan Chimulkar.
According to police, the toddler was injured on her waist but the reason for her death remains unknown.
The Mopa police has detained the bus and the traffic cell is expected to inspect the vehicle. KTC officials also visited Hankhane and to investigate the incident.
PI Chimulkar said the police will investigate the incident even though the girl’s parents have not registered any complaint.
