Toraskar murder: Accused sentenced to 10-yr RI

MAPUSA: Additional District and Sessions Court Mapusa on Thursday sentenced the main accused Rupesh Salgaonkar to 10 years rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 10,000 in the Arun Toraskar murder case at Dando-Siolim in 2013.

The accused will face six months additional imprisonment if he fails to pay the fine of Rs 10,000.

Judge Vijaya Pol had convicted the accused, Rupesh Salgaonkar (32) as guilty under Section 34(A) of IPC on Tuesday, while the other 13 persons involved in the case were released by the court.

It may be recalled that on January 20, 2013, two groups were involved in clashes over the construction of a shed in the temple premises at Dando-Siolim. Accused Salgaonkar allegedly murdered Arun Toraskar after he hit a hammer on his head.
