Amidst the growing popularity of K-dramas in India, the Goa government has decided to invite South Korean filmmakers and citizens to the upcoming International Film Festival of India (IFFI) hosted by the State being a permanent venue.
Tourism Director Kedar Naik stated that as part of efforts to promote Goa as a prime travel destination, an invitation to Korean travellers and filmmakers will be extended to attend IFFI while also the department will share its latest promotional videos with the Indian Mission for public outreach.
The announcement was made during a roadshow in Seoul and Busan, where Goa’s tourism potential was showcased. “We want to position Goa as a premier travel destination for Korean tourists and strengthen tourism ties between the two regions,” he said.
During the visit, the delegation, led by Naik, also met the Ambassador of India to the Republic of Korea, Amit Kumar discussing Goa’s cultural heritage, adventure and water sports, and wellness experiences including yoga and Ayurveda, as key attractions for international travellers.
Currently, eight flight routes connect Goa and South Korea, operated by airlines such as Air India, Korean Air, and Asiana Airlines. Plans are in place to expand connectivity further, catering to the rising interest in Goa as a travel destination among Korean tourists.
As per reports, the surge in popularity of Korean dramas in India, especially during the COVID-19 lockdown, has significantly influenced Indian audiences. This cultural wave has also led to a noticeable increase in demand for Korean food, makeup and music, a trend that continues to thrive.
