Terming the death of the Jaipur tourist a case of negligence of the authorities and needs to be made accountable, Colva-based social activist, Judith Almeida demanded that accountability has to be fixed by filing an FIR against the officials of the tourism/ GTDC departments.
She also demanded that the consultant/ contractor who has carried out the works have to also be made liable, claiming there has to be a guarantee period after crores spent from the exchequer.
“A precious life has been lost. Someone’s loved family member has been lost due to negligence. Where is our hospitality? Is it only about how much money the tourist can spend? Does not give him a safe environment,” Judith said.
She said it is now confirmed that whatever projects the government takes up, there is no application of mind. “Instead of these so called lamps, two bright high mast lamps would have been sufficient near the beach. The very word ‘beautification’ stinks of corruption and substandard works by our station contractors who pay kickbacks in exchange for substandard works,” she said, questioning whether there was a maintenance guideline/ manual system in place which was followed in letter and spirit.
She added: “When the severe soil erosion took place several cables were exposed near the children’s play area, were those cables checked for any damage?
