The Goa Convention of Workers and All Goa Transport Operators Association on Wednesday urged Goans to support the September 2 nationwide strike opposing the "anti-worker" policies of the government.

The meeting held at Old bus stand Ponda was addressed by trade union leaders that included Christopher Fonseca, Adv Raju Mangeshkar, Adv Suhas Naik, Adv Hrishikesh Shirodkar, President of Bus Owner Association Sudip Tamhankar, among others.

“The Road Transport and Safety Bill 2015 will snatch the transport business from the poor people and hand it over to the business houses. Many will be rendered jobless if this bill is passed,” Fonseca warned.

He informed that around 15 trade unions have supported the strike and requested Goans to support their cause.

“The Narendra Modi government seems to be undertaking development only through his speeches. This bill is being introduced only to provide business to the rich class of people,” Tamhankar alleged.

Mangeshkar claimed that the government's intention is to the open doors for big multinational companies, and hence it is hurrying with this bill. "The self-employed, small, independent, private bus, truck, taxi, rickshaw and motorcycle operators, will all suffer due to this bill,” Mangeshkar pointed out.

The demand runs contrary to popular belief that the…
