Traffic arrangements for PM Modi’s visit to Canacona

CANACONA

In view of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the Partagali Math, the Collector and District Magistrate (South Goa) has announced temporary parking and no-parking arrangements. Spaces have been earmarked for 135 cars (including 125 VVIP and 100 VIP), 310 buses and 600 two-wheelers across Chaudi (municipal area), Shristhal (including Shri Mallikarjun Temple), the northern side of Partagali Math (for VVIPs), Parashuram Temple, Potke Ground (Poinguinim), Madditolop and Maxem (Loliem-Polem).

‘No Parking’ has been notified on seven road stretches from Dabolim Junction near the airport to Polem Checkpost in Canacona taluka. Restrictions on the movement of heavy vehicles will be in place on four road stretches on Friday between 10 am and 9 pm.

According to the notification, temporary parking, no-parking zones, restrictions on heavy vehicles, zig-zag barricading, road closures, traffic diversions and other arrangements have been put in place for the unveiling of the 77-foot bronze idol and the launch of 3D projection mapping at Shree Samsthan Gokarn Partagali Jeevottam Math, Canacona, by PM Narendra Modi.

The notification adds that thousands of devotees, spiritual leaders and dignitaries from across India, including VVIPs and VIPs, are expected. To prevent congestion and ensure smooth traffic flow, road closures, diversions and other traffic measures have been planned.

PARKING

Northern side of the Partagali Math is reserved for VVIP/Media (restricted with VVIP vehicle pass) parking – 125 cars; Parashuram Temple Ground (restricted with VIP vehicle pass) – VIP – 100 cars; Potke Ground – General – 400 cars; Cotigao Forest Road parking for Govt/Staff vehicles 4-wheelers – 70 nos, 2-wheelers – 300 nos; Football Ground, Shristhal – General – buses – 60 nos; Mallikarjun Temple, Shristhal parking for – General – buses – 80 nos, car – 40 nos; Govt Higher Secondary Ground — General – car – 400 nos; Mallikarjun Devalaya Group, Opp. Canacona Dy. Collector Office – General – bus – 50 nos; Opposite Indian Oil Petrol Pump, Madditolop (Maxem-Loliem) – General – buses – 50 nos; Mahadwar Internal Road (left-hand side) General – 2-wheeler – 300 nos; Open space near Nirankar Education Society Ground, Maxem – buses – 70 nos.

NO-PARKING

‘No Parking’ has been notified on stretches of road on NH-566 Dabolim Junction to Shantinagar Junction, NH-366 from Dabolim Junction–Chicalim Circle to Cortalim Junction, NH-66 from below New Zuari Bridge to Western Bypass Merger, Western Bypass from NH-66 Merger point at Verna to Bellem Junction Navelim, NH-66 from Bellem Junction Navelim to BCP Pollem–Canacona, Old NH-66 from Char-Rasta, Canacona – Zero Point to Gokarn Partagali Jeevottam Math, Canacona, and Pollem Check-Post, Canacona to Gokarn Partagali Jeevottam Math, Canacona (Old NH-66).

RESTRICTION

Restriction of movement of heavy vehicles will be imposed on Friday between 10 am to 9 pm along NH-66 from IDC Verna towards Canacona, along NH-566 from Borim/Loutolim–SH-5 towards Arlem–Margao and Nuvem Western Bypass, along NH-66 from IDC Cuncolim towards Canacona, and along NH-66 from Polem Checkpost Canacona towards Canacona. Holding areas for these vehicles are at IDC Verna, Missing Link Loutolim, Baithakol to Betoda Bypass Ponda, IDC Cuncolim and Dapot–Canacona.

Zig-zag barricading will be enforced near Maxhem junction (NH-66 Bypass) end of Galgibaga bridge towards Mashem to allow smooth flow of traffic towards Old NH-66 road for Partagali Math. Road closure/diversion will be effected along NH-566/NH-366/NH-66/Old NH-66 from Char-Rasta Canacona to Gokarn Partagali Jeevottam Math and connecting roads along the route from INS Hansa towards Chicalim–Cortalim–Nuvem–Navelim towards Canacona up to Pollem Checkpost.
