The Traffic police on Friday issued a series of traffic diversions and parking restrictions ahead of Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s visit to the State on Saturday.

Shah, who also holds the Cooperation portfolio, will launch the Goa government’s Mhaje Ghar scheme at the Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Stadium in Taleigao besides various other initiatives.

As per the advisory, the road stretch covering INS Hansa–Dabolim Airport–Chicalim Road–NH 366–New Zuari Bridge–NH 66–GMC–Goa University Road and leading to the stadium will remain closed to general vehicular movement during the Home Minister’s road journey. Traffic will be diverted to service roads at designated points.

Vehicles from South Goa heading to the venue will be routed via GMC–Goa University and parked at one of the earmarked locations, including open spaces near the stadium, Goa University cricket ground, IT Habitat and areas adjacent to overhead water tanks. Specific parking has been reserved for buses, two-wheelers, four-wheelers, VIPs and officials.

Similarly, buses from North Goa will proceed through the GMC underpass and Goa University Road before being directed to the designated lots. Other vehicles from the district will be channeled either through Panaji city or the GMC underpass.

Traffic police have also appealed to motorists not to park along the restricted roads and to cooperate with authorities to ensure smooth traffic management during Shah’s visit.

Shah will also lay the foundation stone for seven NBCC projects, including Junta House redevelopment, Government Garage, Prashasan Stambh, and a new Circuit House, apart from four tourism projects such as Unity Mall, Town Square, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Fort, and the upgradation of Harvalem Waterfall.

He will further launch the new Goa Dental College building, the Smart City stadium at DB Ground in Panaji, and E-Witness Rooms in North and South Goa besides flagging off four Forensic Science vans and releasing a book to mark five years of the Swayampurna Goa initiative.
