The cast of Sitare Zameen Par joined participants at the National Institute of Water Sports in Caranzalem on Saturday, where adaptive adventure activities were held as part of the International Purple Fest. The event enabled persons with disabilities (PwDs) to enjoy parasailing, jet skiing and scuba diving.
Organised by the Department of Social Welfare, it aimed to promote accessible and inclusive tourism in Goa.
Social Welfare Minister Subhash Phal Desai, who oversaw the activities, called it a milestone for inclusive tourism. “No one imagined that persons with disabilities would go scuba diving or parasailing. With proper infrastructure and intent, it has become possible. We want Goa to be a model for inclusive tourism where adventure is open to everyone,” he said.
Actor Naman Mishra from Sitare Zameen Par took part in the water activities and said it felt like being part of a regular adventure event.
Fourteen-year-old Prathamesh Sinha, motivational speaker and brand ambassador for ALIMCO and Thinkerbell, also joined the activities. “This is my first time doing water sports. The accessibility here is real and not just for show,” he said.
An organiser said Goa has shown that with the right systems, PwDs can take part in any adventure on equal terms.
