Cuncolim Industrial Estate is back in the news once again as a young worker from Madhya Pradesh died in the Global Ispat unit on Tuesday noon.
The deceased Yogesh Rajkumar Sharma (35) was found dead in the factory around noon after he was trapped in a machinery undergoing maintenance.
Salcete Mamlatdar Prataprao Gaonkar, who rushed to the spot with his talathi, later said that the worker was found dead with severe injures. He said the factory owner has informed that the unit was undergoing maintenance when the incident occurred.
The Mamlatdar has told the owner to immediately inform the relatives of the deceased in Madhya Pradesh so that the body is handed over to the kith and kin after the post-mortem examination at Hospicio on Wednesday.
The Cuncolim police, who visited Global Ispat, has said a case of unnatural death has been registered in connection with the incident. Margao Sub-divisional Police Officer, DySP Sahil Narangal, also visited the factory for an on the spot investigation of the matter.
Police said investigations have got underway to find out whether there was negligence on the part of the management which resulted in the death of the worker.
The police told The Goan that the body of the deceased worker was squeezed in the machinery when he was working inside during the maintenance. “While other workers had move out, the deceased was alone inside which resulted in his death when the machinery was switched on,” the police said.
Meanwhile, South Goa Superintendent of Police, Pankaj Kumar Singh, told the media that preliminary inquiries have revealed that the deceased got trapped in the machinery while conducting maintenance of roughing machine at the plant. He said the deceased worker, from Madhya Pradesh, was presently residing at Veroda-Cuncolim.
In this connection, he said the police have registered a case of unnatural death under section 174 of the Cr PC and further inquiry is in progress.
Earlier this month, the Cuncolim Industrial Estate was in the news when a worker had died following leakage of ammonia gas from Quality Foods.
Though the Cuncolim police later registered a case under section 304-A of the IPC for causing death due to the negligence, no arrests have been made so far.
