Mandrem Police Inspector Girendra Naik has clarified that the transfer of two policemen from the Mandrem police station to the Reserve Force had no connection to the raid on prostitution activities at Arambol beach.
Eight young women were rescued in a raid on a massage parlour by Mandrem police following intense public pressure to crackdown on prostitution activities at Arambol beach.
Locals had complained about prostitution activities at Arambol beach and had accused the police of failing to take action in the matter. They had also submitted representations to the police and the Arambol panchayat demanding action against prostitution activities.
Bowing to growing public pressure, Mandrem police raided a massage parlour in Arambol and rescued eight young women, while also taking three suspects into custody.
Two policemen, Rajesh Shirgaonkar and Sarvesh Mandrekar, were also transferred to the Reserve Force and rumours were spread that the action to transfer the police was taken after locals expressed anger with the Mandrem police for not taking action to crack down on the prostitution activities despite repeated complains.
When contacted, Mandrem Police Inspector Girendra Naik refuted any such link.
“The two policemen had already been transferred before action was taken against the prostitution activities and hence, there is no connection between the two actions,” said PI Naik.
