Blaze affects around ten shops; no injuries reported

Panic gripped the market area in Curchorem on Monday evening after a transformer located near the old municipal building caught fire.
The blaze, which erupted suddenly at around 7 pm, drew the attention of local residents and shopkeepers, many of whom rushed out of their establishments, fearing the fire could spread to nearby properties.
Personnel from the Curchorem Fire Station responded promptly to the emergency and successfully brought the fire under control before it could cause further damage.
According to fire officials, no injuries were reported in the incident.
The fire, however, disrupted the power supply to approximately ten shops in the vicinity, affecting business activities in the market area. Officials from the Curchorem Fire Station estimated the financial loss at around Rs 2 lakh.
Following the incident, personnel from the electricity department initiated repair and restoration work at the site.
Maintenance operations are currently underway, and power supply to the affected establishments is expected to be restored by Tuesday.
The exact cause of the transformer fire has not yet been ascertained and is under investigation.
