Public Works Department (PWD) Minister Digambar Kamat planted saplings at Aquem near the Margao fire station as part of Van Mahotsav celebration.
The Minister told the media that he has been celebrating Van Mahotsav near the Margao Fire station every year since the last 14 years.
Expressing satisfaction that the coconut and arecanut trees planted by him years ago have begun to give yield, Kamat urged the officials to grow more arecanut trees on open spaces across the city.
“Every year, we plant saplings across the city right from the sewerage treatment plant complex to Damodar College and Fatima Convent School. This year we will be distributing around 1000 trees to the people”, he said. Meanwhile, the PWD Minister has thanked Chief Minister Pramod Sawant for providing a state of the art fire fighting vehicle for the Margao fire brigade.
