Social Welfare Minister Subhash Phal Dessai handed over a tricycle to a senior citizen from Fatorda on Sunday, an initiative supported by BJP State President Damu Naik.
The tricycle was given to Yeshwant Hegde at Ravindra Bhavan, Margao.
Phal Dessai said the credit goes to the BJP State President, who paid for the tricycle as the senior citizen did not meet the government aid criteria.
He said he asked the contractor, who supplies similar tricycles to the Social Welfare Department, to arrange for the tricycle after Damu Naik offered to pay for it.
“The tricycle will make the senior citizen independent since he can go to the market and other places on his own,” he said.
Damu Naik said he decided to help as the senior citizen did not fit the criteria for government aid. “Credit goes to the social welfare minister for doing the follow up with the contractor to make available the tricycle,” Damu said.
