Canacona police have booked an unknown truck driver for rash and negligent driving that endangered human life and killed 11 cattle early on Saturday at Dapot-Maxem in Loliem village.
Police said the driver, while proceeding from Polem towards Margao, hit a herd of cattle sleeping on the NH-66 road near the Indian Oil petrol pump at Dapot around 3.25 am. All 11 cattle died on the spot.
The case was registered following a complaint by Head Constable Anil Joshi. The driver has been booked under Section 281, 325 BNS and Section 11(1)(L) of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act. Further investigation is being carried out by ASI Anand Naik of Canacona Police Station.
Incidentally, a petrol pump attendant nearby claimed that two fish vehicles were seen speeding in opposite directions and may have rammed into the herd of cattle.
