The truckers from the mining belts in Dharbandora taluka had warned the mining company at Codli of stopping the trucks if ore transportation was resumed forcibly. Hence, after witnessing the crowd of truckers, the company did not transport ore. A heavy police force was deployed at the mining company to prevent any untoward incident.
The truckers have rejected the rate fixed by Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar and are firm on their demand of overall rate of Rs 12.5 per tonne per km (PTPK) along with a flat diesel rate of Rs 52 for ore transportation.
The chief minister had fixed the rate of Rs 12.5 for below 10 kms, Rs 12 for 11-19 kms, Rs 11.5 for above 20 kms, besides the current rate of diesel.
The Dharbandora Taluka Truck Association president Vinayak Gawas said they will agitate till their demand is met. "We should get justice as we will not gain anything on rate fixed by the chief minister. We will agitate till we get justice," Gawas said.
However, a company official told The Goan that they will not accept the rate of truckers and they should abide to the rate fixed by the chief minister. "Let them agitate. We will transport ore on Tuesday with police protection," said the officer on condition of anonymity.
