The Old Goa police have arrested two men for allegedly brutally beating a stray dog with a wooden stick. However, they were released on bail shortly after their arrest.
The accused, Jogindar Singh (32), a driver, and Anil Kumar (28) from Madhavapur, Uttar Pradesh, were caught on CCTV committing the crime on May 6.
A disturbing video of the incident went viral on social media, prompting a complaint and the filing of an FIR.
"The video, which appeared on May 6, showed two individuals repeatedly beating a street dog with a wooden stick. A complaint was made by Stephen Samuel, Field Officer of the District Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, and a case was registered. During the investigation, police reviewed CCTV footage from the area and identified the accused," said Rahul Gupta, Superintendent of Police (North).
The accused were questioned and admitted to the crime. They were arrested but were granted bail after providing surety.
The offence has been registered at the Old Goa Police Station under Section 325, read with Section 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, and Section 11(1)(a) of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.
