As part of a special drive against drug-related activities near educational institutions, the North Goa police arrested two people, including a teenager, within 48 hours for allegedly selling narcotics.
In the first case on June 16, Pernem police arrested 28-year-old Shivanand Gawade from Parcem, Pernem. He was found in illegal possession of 732 grams of suspected ganja. The drugs, worth around Rs 70,000, were hidden in a Goa-registered two-wheeler.
In a follow-up action on the morning of June 18, police caught 19-year-old Harshadeep Ghanekar from Mayem, Bicholim, with 29 grams of suspected ganja, valued at approximately Rs 2,900.
Superintendent of Police (North) Rahul Gupta confirmed the drugs were meant to be sold to students. “Both cases are part of a special drive against narcotics substances being peddled around educational institutions. In both cases, it has emerged that the accused attempted to sell substances to the students. There is zero tolerance for such activities in the district,” Gupta said.
