While candidates such as Roger Afonso, contesting from Ward No. 5 of Betalbatim village panchayat has said that he has already kicked up his campaign, others were circumspect over their fate in the wake of the Apex Court order. What has further added to the confusion was the fact that while the candidates were looking at the election authorities to guide them how to go about the matter, Returning Officer for the Betalbatim and Nuvem panchayats, Vishal Kundaikar made it clear to The Goan that he has not received any instructions from the State Election Commission till Tuesday evening on the election process. Also, while the State government seeks to approach the SEC to organise one more day of filing nominations, the fate of candidates who have been elected unopposed after benefiting from the High Court order now hangs in limbo.
