According to Vasco police, IRB constables Raghu Ratnakar Nanshikar and Sudesh Velgekar had taken the undertrials, Chandru Patil and Sameer Bepari, for a medical checkup at the Chicalim Cottage Hospital in an escort cell vehicle on Tuesday morning.
According to the complainant, Raghu Nanshikar, when they were returning the two undertrials asked constables to purchase cigarettes and gutkha. However, when the IRB constables refused to pay heed to their demands, Patil started abusing Velgekar and later allegedly assaulted them.
Police added that Bepari damaged the rear mirror of the escort cell bus and later attempted to commit suicide by inflicting self injuries by using a sharp blade. The police said they have registered an offence against the undertrials under Sections 504, 353, 309 IPC and Section 3 of PDPP and PSI Suraj Kankonkar is investigating the case.
