The United Taximen Union (UTU), an association with about 350 yellow-black taxis operating at Dabolim Airport, has decided to meet the collector over the issue of a dedicated parking space.
UTU Advisor Adv. Herculano Dourado accused the airport director of going against the decision earlier taken by the South Goa collector and was favouring taxis belonging to Goa Miles App and Taj Taxi services by offering them parking space at the airport.
“Our main issue is that of parking facilities. We have a designated parking stand at the airport, but we don’t have sufficient space. We have parking space for only around 20 taxis despite being a unit of 350 taxis, but taxis belonging to Goa Miles and Taj Tours park in the area.”
“Some time back, the South Goa collector had directed to clear the exit road when we were parking on either side of the road stating that it was creating blockage. But after removing us, the space is now being allotted to taxis of other counters and also given to buses, leaving us with no parking space,” complained Dourado.
“We cannot park our taxis on the roads because police starts clamping our vehicles nor can we park at the airport. So where do we go? Tourist taxis and app-based taxis cannot park at the airport because it is only a pickup point for them and this decision was taken by the collector and the minutes of the meeting are also present.”
“However, the airport director is still allocating them parking space and we will take up this matter with the collector soon,” said
Dourado.
