A young labourer from Uttar Pradesh was found dead in the Sanguem market on Thursday evening.

Sources said the labourer had been working on projects in the area.

Sanguem Police conducted a panchanama and later sent the body to the South Goa District hospital for an autopsy to ascertain the cause of death.

Incidentally, Sanguem market area has a large population of migrant labourers who often gather after work to drink alcohol, which frequently leads to disturbances and altercations among themselves.

Local residents have previously voiced concerns about these gatherings, anticipating a serious incident.

The area where the body was found is noted for its unhygienic conditions. Local residents have also criticised local government agencies and the Sanguem Municipal Council for failing to address the issue.
