MARGAO
The Paroda gram sabha witnessed an uproar over the question of alleged illegal constructions that have come up atop a hillock in the village and the infrastructure facilities provided by the authorities, including a retaining wall and drainage.
The meeting also discussed at length the issue over the TCP’s letter addressed to the panchayat body, cautioning the people not to buy the alleged illegal and unauthorized plots in the properties in question.
At the gram sabha chaired by Sarpanch Inacio Dias, gram sabha member Gabriel Fernandes fired a volley of questions to the chair on these twin issues. He demanded to know whether the panchayat has displayed any board at the properties at Mullem based on the TCP letter dated March 1, cautioning buyers not to go for the plots as the properties are earmarked as cultivable in the Regional Plan.
Gabriel and others pointed that the panchayat should take necessary action based on the TCP letter to save many a gullible buyer from falling prey to the machinations of the plot developer,.
Gabriel and other gram sabha members also raised the issue of construction of a retaining wall and drainage atop the hillock, saying these developmental activities have been taken up just to benefit the migrants staying at the place. They threatened to file a case before the Vigilance if the panchayat does not initiate necessary action.
Saying that the houses have come up atop the hillock in violation of the rules, Gabriel said the retaining wall has been constructed at the cost of taxpayer money just to protect the houses in case of a land slide.
