No discrimination done while
launching schemes: Francis

Deputy Chief Minister, Francis D’Souza on Tuesday said the BJP-led government has created no discrimination among the Goan populace whenever it launched its numerous social welfare schemes in the State.
“The government makes no caste or religion discromination while launching several schemes. We make sure whatever schemes that are launched reach every segment of the society,” D’Souza said.
The deputy chief minister was speaking at the launch of the 'Goa Yuva Samvad Yojan', a digital initiative for youth in Mapusa.
Aldona MLA Glenn Ticlo, Mapusa Municipal Council Chairperson Sandeep Falari and councillors, Director of IT Ameya Abhankar, GEL chairman Dattprasad Naik and Vodafone official Shekar Agarwal were present on the occasion.
Speaking further, the deputy chief minister said Goa government’s laptop scheme was the number one scheme in India. “Through the laptop scheme, our youth got an opportunity to widen their IT knowledge. Almost everyone in Goa has become IT savvy,” he said.
He urged the youth to make maximum use of the free talk time and internet data usage and not to misuse the scheme. “With 100 minutes free talk time per month, it effectively means that a youth gets three minutes to talk per day. For a needy person, three minutes is quite a bit and if a person wants to misuse he or she can finish the 100 minutes within a day,” he said.
The deputy chief minister said the Goa government will have to share a burden of Rs 1.25 crore per year if one lakh youth take the benefit of the scheme in the State.
Aldona MLA Ticlo said most of the schemes launched by the Goa government were in the social and educational sectors. “Unlike the opposition which launched schemes and stopped these abruptly, our schemes are going strong despite the financial crunch the government had to face,” he said.
Director of IT Abhyankar in his welcome speech said internet was the future currency in the country.
Mapusa Municipal Council Chairperson Falari, Vodafone official Agarwal and Goa Electronics Ltd Chairman Dattaprasad Naik also spoke.
