UTAA to decide future course on reservation demand

MARGAO

The leadership of the United Tribal Associations Alliance (UTAA) will meet on Friday to discuss the High Court’s decision on the notification of the Scheduled Tribe (ST) population and decide its future course of action, expressing dissatisfaction over the developments concerning its long-pending demand for political reservations.

UTAA chief Prakash Velip and members of the core team will review the court’s order ahead of a convention of ST leaders and workers scheduled in Margao on October 31.

A senior UTAA leader told The Goan that the ST population had been notified in 2013 and argued that the government should have brought this fact to the court’s attention by placing the notification on record. The issue will be discussed at Friday’s meeting, the leader added.

The October 31 convention is expected to finalise the alliance’s action plan, including a possible agitation to press for political reservations for the ST community in the 2027 Assembly elections.
