Demand alternative road from the govt
MARGAO
As the railways are bracing up to lay the double track in Utorda village, beleaguered residents of the village on Sunday fear that their decades old road will be finally shut by the railway authorities.
They pointed out that the road was being used by the local residents to go to the Church and the school on the other side of the track, fearing that they will have a long route to make it to the other side of the tracks.
Sunday saw the beleaguered residents, mostly comprising of elders, giving vent to their feelings and sentiments, as they demand that the Goa government build an alternate road if the railways are hell bent in closing their decades old road.
“We have put an application before the village Panchayat, Collector’s office, besides the local MLA and the railways for alternate road at the same site to cater to our requirements”, an elderly lady told the media.
Saying that they have been using the road for over four decades now, the residents wondered how come the railway just come and deny them the road access on the plea the land has been acquired by the railways.
“We are asking for justice. If the railways are hell bent in shutting our road, let the government provide us an alternate road at the site”, they demanded.
