Vaccination programme to eradicate foot and mouth disease
PANAJI: The Department of Animal Husbandary and Veterinary Services, under the Livestock Health and Disease Control (LH&DC), will be organising a 30-day programme which will commence from December 7. All efforts are being made to vaccinate all the cattle and buffalo population and sera samples will be collected from selected villages, while pre and post vaccination will be undertaken to ascertain the immune status of the herd. Dairy farmers are requested to cooperate with the department in this endeavour of immunisation of the entire cattle and buffalo population in the State with a view to eradicate foot and mouth disease which is highly contagious and results in high economic losses in milk production, draught power, growth and reproduction.
