MARGAO
Former Youth Congress president Valanka Alemao, whose candidature did not find favour with the Congress party for the fourth successive time, has welcomed the decision of the Congress to nominate former MP Francisco Sardinha for the South Goa seat.
And, Valanka made it abundantly clear that she along with her supporters will work for the success of the Congress candidate and the party in the ensuing election. “It appears that the Congress high command has settled for experience while deciding the party ticket. I welcome the decision,” Valanka told The Goan.
Valanka pointed out that she would wholeheartedly work for the Congress party in the coming election. When her attention was drawn to the fact that her candidature was apparently not considered after certain party office bearers raised the issue of membership, Valanka said “certain local leaders had raised the question of my integrity. But, they have all proved wrong”.
This is not the first time that Valanka’s name figured in the list of probable candidates for the South Goa Lok Sabha seat. She had staked claim for the Lok Sabha ticket for the first time in the 2007 bypoll, again in the 2009 poll and in 2014.
