Although the Vanarmare (Katkari) community at Nirankal in Ponda is eligible for several social welfare and education schemes, none of its members are currently receiving any benefits from state or central government programmes.

This was found during a field visit today by Social Welfare Director Ajit Panchwadkar, as part of the ongoing Atal Asra special drive across constituencies.

Panchwadkar said that during discussions with the community, it was discovered that no one is enrolled in schemes like pre-matric and post-matric scholarships for students. They are also not getting help under the Dayanand Social Security scheme.

In addition, persons with disabilities in the community are not covered under any disability welfare scheme. Government records show that around 18 families are eligible.

The department will soon organise a special camp, along with the local village panchayat, to help residents complete the documents needed to apply for the schemes.
